Description

The QSX692 coaxial speaker is a 6-inch by upgrade from factory speakers. Coaxial speakers reproduce a wide range of audio frequencies by combining a midrange woofer and tweeter into one door speaker. Factory car audio systems usually include either 6.5″ or 6″ by 9″ coaxial door speakers. Common sizes make replacing your vehicle’s factory door speakers an easy and affordable do-it-yourself car audio upgrade.

This “door swap” project involves removing the door panels and factory speakers. Once you have the old speakers removed, simply replace them with the new ones. From there, you’ll wire the new speakers and reassemble the doors. For more info, check out this post on why you might want to complete a door-swap on your vehicle.

Not all door speakers are coaxial. Some models have a component speaker set in the front and coaxial speakers in the rear doors. If your door speakers don’t have the smaller tweeter in the middle, your vehicle may have a component set. If you’re not sure, look for small speakers mounted in the dash or pillars. Confirm your door speaker type, and dimensions to make sure you choose the correct speakers for your project.

Beyond the door swap

Swapping out your door speakers doesn’t require adding an amplifier. If you add a subwoofer to your system, you can drive your new door speakers with their own multi-channel amplifier. As a result, you’ll be able to balance the sound level of your door speakers with the output of the subwoofer.

Before you buy any speakers, take the time to draw out a design. Once you have thought through the steps of installing your car audio system, you’ll have a better idea of what will be required. Swapping door speakers shouldn’t affect your vehicle’s normal operation. However, when adding amplifiers to your audio system, you may need to upgrade your charging system. Also, you may need to change head units or add a line-out converter to send the right signal level to your amp.

Coaxial speakers reproduce a wide range of audio frequencies by combining a woofer and tweeter into one speaker’s location. Because of this broader coverage of frequencies, vehicle manufacturers often use coaxial, or “full range”, speakers in factory audio systems.

Factory car audio systems usually include either 6.5″ or 6″ by 9″ coaxial door speakers. These common sizes make replacing your vehicle’s factory door speakers an easy and affordable do-it-yourself car audio upgrade. This “door swap” involves removing the door panels and factory speakers, and replacing them with speakers of the same size. Later, you can even upgrade to component speakers using the same 6.5″ speaker cutouts.

In case of a previous upgrade to your vehicle’s audio system, check your door speaker type, and dimensions to make sure you choose the right upgrade speakers for your project.
